{Staircases: Enhancing Both Form and Function
Stairs are crucial in construction, serving as both a functional necessity and a architectural highlight. From modern designs to grand designs, stairs come in a variety of options to fit any space. From compact Spiral stairs to elegant Curved designs, there’s a stair to fit any space or vision.
{U-Shaped Stairs: Great for Luxurious Spaces
A U-shaped stairway design includes two flights that run parallel, connected by a landing that makes a half-turn. This design is often found in grand homes or public spaces with generous upward room. The U-shape combines a impressive look with a footprint that optimises available space. A landing in the midway point of the stairway design can be used for both taking a break and aesthetics. This option is linked to luxury and is a favoured choice in upscale or traditional homes.
{The Practicality of Curved Stairs
These stairway designs are known for their elegant, flowing design that curves smoothly upward. Unlike Spiral staircases, Curved designs offer a gentler ascent. Curved stairs are often seen in luxurious homes, classic structures, or high-end hotels as a design feature. Building Curved stairs is a time-consuming process that typically results in a higher cost. The result is a stunning structural feature that enhances the design of a space.
{Floating Stairway Designs: Merging Innovation and Aesthetics
A Floating stair is known by its clean design, creating the effect of stairs hovering in air. These stairway designs achieve their hovering look by being anchored to a hidden support, avoiding obtrusive elements. Floating stairway designs are a favoured feature in modern homes, where they enhance the feeling of space. The minimalist design of Floating stairway designs allows other interior elements, like lighting, to become design highlights. While visually striking, Floating staircases require careful engineering to ensure durability.
{Spiral Stairway Designs: Transforming Compact Interiors
A Spiral stair consists of steps that spiral around a supporting column in a spiral fashion. Spiral staircases are a ideal solution for tight areas, such as outdoor decks, where space is at a premium. Spiral stairs are often made from materials like metal, allowing for a diverse selection of design options. Although space-saving, Spiral stairs can be challenging to use, particularly for those with physical limitations or carrying bulky items. Their unique look makes them a popular option for enhancing the aesthetic appeal of a space.
{The Practicality of Bifurcated Stairway Designs
Bifurcated stairs are a grand and balanced design often seen in mansions or public buildings. Bifurcated stairway designs include a primary flight that splits into two at a break, typically curving away from each other. Bifurcated stairway designs are recognised for their imposing and impressive presence, making them a favoured choice for formal areas. The layout allows for a balanced look, often decorated with elegant railings, fixtures, or other aesthetic elements. While they require substantial space and cost, Bifurcated staircases are a timeless sign of elegance.
{Stairs: A Expression of Personal Taste
Beyond their utility, stairs are a celebration of design innovation and skill. From sleek Floating stairs to opulent Curved designs, stairs can enhance any space into something extraordinary. No matter the scale or scale of a project, stairs will remain a enduring and indispensable element of construction
Thousands of homes could have 'unsafe staircases'
Thousands of council homes could have potentially dangerous staircases which need to be replaced.
Newcastle City Council said more than 3,000 homes and 57 block of flats have staircases with horizontal guarding which can pose a risk to children climbing up the panels and either falling or becoming trapped.
The authority said the design, now banned under modern building standards, was a category one hazard under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS).
